Every year, we talk about how consistently inconsistent spring can be in our region. This year seems to be even more extreme. Many courses have been challenged with a lack of rainfall, causing stress on plants and people earlier than usual, with the historically difficult stretch of the season still ahead. Though conditions thus far have not produced high disease pressure, humidity and dew points are on the rise and disease is just around the corner.
As a reminder, the lack of pressure thus far this season does not mean that disease isn’t ready to surface. With turf already stressed due to this spring’s dry conditions, now is not the time to attempt stretching your applications. A deviation from your standard intervals could make control even more challenging for the stretch ahead.
Don’t make the summer grind more difficult for yourself or your turf. Stick to your plan and stay on schedule to continue providing the best conditions at your facility.
