The annual icebreaker event is an opportunity for students to come together and form connections with one another. This is especially important for four year students who may not have classes with two year students. By forming a brotherhood between students, they have the chance to network and build relationships that can be beneficial throughout their careers.

During the icebreaker event, students had the chance to compete in several fun competitions at the Hancock Turfgrass Research Center, including putting, chipping, and closest to the pin. Lunch was provided by the MTF and prizes were sponsored by MIGCSA. It was a great opportunity for students to bond over friendly competition.

The executive directors of MTF and MiGCSA, Carey Mitchelson and Adam Ikamas, spoke to the students after the event. They emphasized the importance of "showing up" and getting involved in turf organizations. They discussed the scholarship opportunities available from both organizations, as well as the benefits of improving interview skills. They stressed the tight-knit nature of the turf community and encouraged students to take advantage of networking opportunities. Overall, the icebreaker event was a success in fostering connections and promoting involvement in the turf industry.
